What I like about these videos is that the author seems respectful and makes a genuine effort at being objective. My objection is this: the grid-logic is flawed because the 'worst case scenario' can be used for any purpose, such as limiting civil rights and invading countries to defend us from terrorists. Think '1% doctrine'. As we've seen, this line of logic works very well.If this has been addressed before, please let me know. I am convinced of GGC. But not by this logic, by evidence.

Minimal action may be necessary--I'll agree with that. Heck, major action may be necessary, but until I see what exactly "action" means, I'll have to remain skeptical. So far, things like the kyoto agreement and the LW bill here in the U.S. have come far short of a quality solution.

The "action" I would like to see is minimal. I'd like to see the UN and national governments around the world coming to terms with, and accepting, the idea that GCC is perhaps the most urgent issue that we face, in almost every sense: environmental, ethical, economic, and even in regards to national security. Specific, literal, "action" is something that I would leave to professional minds to assess and determine, as I am not qualified to recommend "action" in regards to a global catastrophe.

I don't understand how positive action, like what is recommended by the much discussed AAAS and NAAS, could lead to anything but positive results, even nominal ones.Obviously, I'm not confusing the two. Let me reword that--do we have any idea that "action" by the UN and like political entities will result in a net positive impact? The answer, sadly, remains the same: We do not.Your second paragraph seems odd to me--I did not realize the goal was to turn the third world into a "world-stabilizing force". As far as I can tell, both bobo6245 and this video series speak about action towards alleviating the consequences of climate change, and I hope you are not confusing the two. |
